British Masters Decathlon, Birmingham 19-20 September

Phil Robinson won the V45 Decathlon title held over two days at Birmingham.

Phil set season's bests in the 400 (60.52), 1500m (5.19.68), Pole Vault (3 metres) and long jump (5.23m) winning all four individual events and would have equalled his personal best over the 110H but for a following wind which was slightly over the 2.5m maximum. Phil also completed the 100 (13.67), high jump (1.54), Shot Putt (9.32), Discus (25.78) and Javelin (34.52) for an overall points total of 5216 to win by a clear 600 points. Many congratulations.


Northern Inter-Counties, Blackburn : 22 August

George Asson return from holiday to win the 100m at the Northern Inter-Counties Championships at Witton Park, Blackburn in 11.28. Christ Lamb recorded 3.50 for second place in the pole vault and 5.80 for fifth in the long jump.

Jessica Leonard was fifth in the 300m (41.60, Erin Makin leapt 4.69th taking seventh in the long jump. Other top ten finishers were Jacob Beesley (discus) and Laura Fairclough (shot) while Peter Davies (discus) and Taya Jones (shot putt) made their County debuts.

Northern U17/U15 Championships, Middlesborough

The club provided three finalists with Chris Lamb taking the silver medal in the pole vault (3.50), Adam Woosey finshing fourth in the U17 800 (2.03.37) and Charlie Roberts taking sixth spot in the U13 Boys 800 (2.24.69). Well done to all three lads.


World Masters' Championships - Lyon.

Darren Scott is the World Masters V45 200m champion recording 22.72 in Lyon. Darren also finished third in the 100m Championship with a time of 11.27.


Northern League - Ormskirk 8th August

With only 9 men and 7 women, S Helens Sutton AC still managed to finish in fourth place in the last round of the Northern Senior league at Ormskirk on 8th August. The team spirit was fantastic and everyone pulled together and covered as many events as they could. Jess Leonard ran the 100m in 12.7, the 400m in 59.5 and lead the 4 x 100 relay team, Erin Makin ran the 100m in 13.5, the 200m in 28.3 and then jumped 4.64m for a PB in the long jump . Zoe Pye ran the 200m in 29.1 and jumped 3.88m in the long jump. Hannah Seabrook jumped 8.59m in the triple jump and 1.40m in the high jump. Trish Spark had a busy day throwing the hammer 39.22m, the shot putt 8.49m then the discus 19.74 followed by the javelin 14.61m, she then ran a leg of the 4 x 100 relay to make the team up with Zoe and Hannah. Jess, Hannah, Zoe and Erin then also managed to run the 4 x 400m relay. Rachael Fairclough and Gemma Connolly both ran the 3000m in 10.51.5 and 10.53.2 then an hour later both ran the 1500m,Rachel with 5.14.1 and Gemma 5.15.4.

For the men Daniel Lamb ran the 100m in 11.4 for a PB, the 200 in 24.2 also a PB and jumped 5.51 in the long jump. Jonathan Causer switched from middle distance to sprints and ran the 100m in 12.3, the 200m in 24.2 both PB’s and the 400m in 56.7. Adam Woosey ran the 400m in 53.8 which was a PB, then the 800m in 2.04.9. Jamie White ran the 3000m steeplechase in 11.16.0 then managed the 1500m in 5.15.6. John Greenhall ran the 5000m in 18.35.5. Christopher Lamb covered the pole vault 3.40m, the high jump 1.65m and the triple jump 10.79m. Nathan Orr threw the discus 27.63m and the javelin 21.78m, Ste Winn threw the hammer 20.66m and the shot putt 8.27m, and Mike Hughes threw the hammer 30.15m, the shot putt 7.65m and the javelin18.60m. Daniel, Christopher, Jonathan and Adam also ran the 4 x 100m relay.

Thank you to all the athletes who have taken part in the 4 matches in this year’s Northern Senior League, and also a big thank you to those who have officiated. We finished in fifth place overall which unfortunately means we will be going down to division3 next year, but hopefully we will have a strong team next year and hopefully less injuries and we should be able to get back up to division 2.
