Northern Inter-Counties

The following nine club athletes have been selected to represent Merseyside in the Northern Inter-Counties at Blackburn on 22 August. Jacob Beesley DT Peter Davies DT Laura Fairclough SP Taya Farrag-Jones SP Chris Lamb PV & LJ Matthew Lamb 100 Jessica Leonard 300 Erin Makin LJ Adam Woosey 800 Congratulations from all at the club.


British Masters Championships

Darren Scott finished second in the M45 100m iin 11.30 secs and won the 200m in 22.81secs. Darren is looking forward tocompeting at Lyon next week and we wish him every success.


YDL Champions

Sunday 26th July saw the final youth development league held at Oldham. There were 15 athletes competing for the club under rainy conditions, however 6 personal bests were achieved. The club gained promotion after winning each of the 4 competitions! Under 17 boy, George Asson ran 11.4 in the 100m and went on to run 22.7 for the 200m. Also representing the under 17 men, Daniel Lamb finished the 100m in 11.7 and achieved a pb in his long jump with 5m78. Erin Makin also ran in the 100m to finish in 13.6, 28.1 for the 200m which was a pb and 4m58 in the long jump (pb). Megan Lang ran 14.8 in the 100m and went on to jump 4m27 in the long jump. She also competed in the triple jump. Jessica Leonard ran in the 300m to finish in 42.8 and 24.0 in the 200m which was a pb. Sam Thomson ran 55.6 in the 400m whilst Jonathan Causer ran 56.8. Jonathan also threw the shot and discus. Adam Woosey competed in the 400m too- he finished in 54.7, and ran in the 800m to finish in 2.10. Maria McGoldrick competed in the 400m achieving a time of 66.1 and 2.34 for the 800m. Denni Rigby ran in the 1500m to finish in 7.17 and got a pb in the 800m with a time of 3.24. Denni threw the shot for the first time achieving a pb of 3m28. Laura Fairclough threw the hammer 21m99 and the shot 7m15. Louise also threw the shot achieving 7m39 and threw the discus. Jacob Beesley jumped in the long jump; 4m78 and he also threw the shot and discus. Emily Smith jumped 1m40 in the high jump. Hannah Seabrook jumped 1m35 in the high jump and also competed in the triple jump. The under 17 men's 4 x 100m relay consisted of Sam, Daniel, Jacob and George. They finished 2nd.
The under 17 women's 4 x 100m relay included Emily, Erin, Megan and Jess. They finished 1st.
The under 20 men's 4 x 100m relay team included Sam, Adam, George and Jonathan. The boys finished 1st.
The under 20 women's 4 x 400m relay team included Maria, Hannah, Denni and Jessica. They finished 1st.


Well done to all competitors! Thanks to the officials: Chris Dempsey, Roger McCaul, Julie Woosey and Helena McGoldrick. Look forward to next year in a higher league!

YDL Lower Match 4, SportCity : Saturday 18th July

1 club record, 1 seasons best, 27 pb's

Saturday 18th July saw the fourth YDL (lower) match which was held at Sport City. There were 19 athletes representing the club; 27 pb's were achieved, 1 seasons best and a club record!

Under 13 boy, Charlie Roberts broke the club record for the 800m. He won his race and finished with a pb of 2.22.7. He also went on to throw the javelin 10.33m (pb) and threw the shot 4.64m. Also representing the under 13 boys was James Moran. He competed in the 100m and 200m to achieve pb's in both events: 14.4 and 29.2. James jumped in the long jump too getting another pb with 3.41m. Matthew Roberts ran in the 100m and 200m- he also got pb's in these events (15.2) and (30.8) as well as jumping 3.49m in the long jump. Lewis Turner also competed in the under 13 boys age group, he represented the club for the first time and ran 2.47.2 for the 800m (pb). Matthew Fairclough threw the javelin 21.03m and competed in the high jump to achieve 1.26m- these were both pb's! He competed in the shot putt as well, throwing 7.07m. The boys relay team consisted of Matthew F, Charlie, James and Lewis- the boys finished in 59.7.

Lauren Taylor ran in the under 13 girls 75m to achieve 11.5, and 22.5 for the 150m (pb) however she got her second pb of the day in the long jump with 3.29m. Shana Rigby finished her 75m race in 12.7 and got a pb in her 150m with a time of 24.9. She also threw the javelin 3.86m. Blythe Carter-Jones competed over 800m to finish in 3.00.3 and got a pb in the shot with 4.65m and another in the javelin; 11.39m. Amber Escoffery ran her best race so far- achieving a pb of 2.59.8 and then went on to throw the shot putt 3.53m. Katie Lang ran in the 70mHurdles to achieve a pb of 14.2. The girls relay included: Lauren, Amber, Blythe and Shana- who finished in 64.6.

Peter Davies, competed in the 300m for the under 15 boys. He ran 44.1, threw the discus 14.96m and threw the shot 7.69m. Matthew Slevin ran 2.31.0 for the 800m which was a pb and threw the discus 14.23m.

Under 15 girl, Lauren Marshall competed in the 100m to achieve a seasons best of 13.8. She jumped 4.46m in the long jump. Holly Collier competed for the first time and ran 13.9 for the 100m which was a pb. She also threw the discus 18.92m which was another pb. Kirsten Bottom competed in the 200m to achieve a pb of 29.2, achieved 47.9 for the 300m and threw the discus 17.18m. Codi Wills achieved a pb in the 200m with 31.3 and threw the shot 5.77m. Christina Rimmer ran 51.9 for the 300m and threw the javelin 10.28m (PB) as well as jumping 3.48m in the long jump. Jorden Pilkington competed over the 75mHurdles to finish in a time of 12.8 (PB). She threw the shot 7.70m too. Lucy Price competed in the 800m to achieve a pb of 2.50. The girls relay team consisted of Codi, Lauren, Holly and Jorden- finishing in 56.7.

Well done to everyone who competed- the club finished 3rd overall! Thanks to Anthony, Karen, Dave, Dianne, Ian and Sarah for helping throughout the season. Hopefully we will have another great season next year!

Northern League Div2 Match 3, Sunday 13th July

St Helens Sutton Athletes had a good day at the third match of the Northern Senior League at Ellesmere Port on Sunday 12th July. Although they finished 5th overall, they achieved 19 personal bests and 4 club records.

The 4 x 100 men’s relay team Chris Lamb, George Asson, Matthew Lamb and Darren Scott ran a time of 44.5 which was a new club record. The ladies 4 x 400 relay team Maddie Williams, Maria McGoldrick, Rachel McGoldrick and Jess Leonard also got a club record with a time of 4.19.3. Trish Spark was back to form in the hammer throwing a PB of 40.58m for the third club record. George Asson achieved his PB in the 200m running 22.8 which was a new U17 men’s club record.

Other notable performances were from Matthew Lamb with 3 pb’s in Pole Vault 2.30m, long jump 5.21m, triple jump 10.67, brother Chris got 2 pb’s in high jump 1.70m and triple jump 11.43 he also cleared 3.40 in the pole vault. Rachel Woosey 2 PB’s in 100m and 200m with 13.00secs and 26.6secs, Maria McGoldrick 2 PB’s in 400m 65.0 and 800m 2.26.4, Laura Fairclough 2 PB’s in hammer 19.98m and shot 7.89m, Rachael Fairclough PB in 3000m in 10.55.1, Emily Smith PB in Javelin with 23.86m and cleared 1.45 in the high jump, Hannah Seabrook PB in triple jump 8.78 and cleared 1.40 in the high jump, Tom McKeever PB in javelin throwing 49.99m, Jamie White PB in 400m hurdles in 69.9 and ran the 3000m steeple chase in 11.02.8, Erin Makin equalled her PB in the 200m running 28.5 and jumped 4.39 in the long jump.



Darren Scott ran the 100m in 11.5, 200m in 22.9 and the 400M hurdles in 61.7, Sam Thomson ran the 400m in 54.8, Jonathan Causer ran the 400m in 57.0 and the 800m in 2.17.0, Adam Woosey 800m in 2.04.3 and 1500m in 4.36.5, Ben Oldham 1500m in 4.49.9, Barry Graney 5000m in 18.56.4, Mike Hughes threw the hammer 30.10m the shot 8.09m and the discus 25.73m, Ste Winn threw the hammer 20.80m and the shot 8.42m, Nathan Orr threw the discus 25.03m and the Javelin 17.78m.

For the ladies Zoe Pye ran the 100m in 14.0 and jumped 4.16m in the long jump, Jess Leonard ran the 400m in 59.8, Rachel McGoldrick 800m in 2.27.4 and the 1500m in 5.05.5, Maddie Williams ran the 1500m in 5.24.6, Gemma Connolly ran the 3000m in 11.20.1, Natalie Bannister 100m Hurdles in 18.8 and the 400M hurdles in 83.9, Amy Hughes triple jumped 9.01m and ran the 100m hurdles in 19.9 ,Alex Bottomley threw the javelin 22.82m and Louise Fairclough threw the discus 15.62m.


Cheshire League, Crewe, Sunday 5th July

Sunday 5th July saw the second Cheshire League meeting held at Crewe. The thunder caused the meeting to be abandoned. However, there were 5 athletes competing for the club, including Peter Davies. Peter competed in the 100m to achieve a pb of 13.0. He also threw the shot 7.75m. Aaron Leach got 2 pb's in his events; one in the 75m with 12.2 and another in the 600m with a time of 1.59.9. Jacob Roberts jumped 3.45m in the long jump which was a pb, he ran 12.0 for the 75m. Michael Brussels represented the club in the 100m and discus whilst his sister Hollie ran in the 75m. Well done and thank you for representing the club!
