Northern Cross Country Championships, Pontefract Park : Saturday 24th January 2015

Saturday 24th January saw the Northern Cross Country Championships held at Pontefract Park. The conditions were very muddy and cold and there were 13 athletes representing the club.
First for the club was the under 20 ladies, this saw Rachel McGoldrick finish the 5.6km race in 40th position in 22.50 and also Maria McGoldrick who finished 51st in a time of 24.15.
Next was the under 13 boys, both representatives competed in their first ever northern competition, Charlie Roberts finished the 3.1km race in 139th place in 13.06 whilst Michael Brussels finished in 168th position in 13.51. There was one under 15 girl who covered the distance of 4km. Samantha Price completed the race in 105th place in a time of 18.47.
Gemma Connolly competed in the senior ladies 8km race, she finished 47th in a time of 33.16. Finally, there were 7 senior men. This race saw Tom Griffiths cover the distance of 12km in 133rd in 44.18, Steve Anders also started this event but was unable to complete the race. John Greenall finished in 283rd in 48.30 and Barry Graney finished 409th in a time of 51.50. In addition to this, Andy O'Connor completed the race in 564th place in 58.0, whilst Peter Johnson finished 490th in 55.19 and Tony Doyle finished in 679th place in 1.10.43. The senior men finished 47th overall.

Manchester League Cross Country Match 4, Heaton Park, Manchester : Saturday 10th January 2015

Saturday 10th January 2015 saw the fourth Manchester Area Cross Country League held at Heaton Park. There were 28 athletes competing for the club in cold and windy conditions.

First off was the under 11 girls 2.8km race; Amber Escoffery led the team home in 27th place in a time of 14.33, she was followed by Lucy Bridge who finished 29th in 15.00 and Hollie Brussels finished in 32nd place in a time of 15.38. The girls team finished in 8th place.
Next was the under 11 boys who competed alongside the under 13 girls, who covered 2.8km . Aaron Leach led the boys home in 7th place in 12.15, shortly followed by Ben Toole finishing 17th in 13.28. Matthew Dodd brought the team home in 24th place and finished in 15.21. The boys team finished 4th overall. Ashlea Sprott led home the under 13 girls to finish in 38th place in 13.59, Blythe Carter-Jones completed the race in 39th place in 14.08 and Lucy Price finished in 40th place in 14.10. The girls team finished in 11th place.

Also the under 13 boys ran in the same race as the under 15 girls. This race was 3.2km. Charlie Roberts led the team home in 23rd place in 15.10, Michael Brussels finished in 24th place in 15.11 whilst Matthew Slevin finished 27th in 15.21 and Liam Houghton finished the course in 30th in a time of 15.49. This meant that the team finished 6th overall. Samantha Price was the only representative for the under 15 girls and finished in 16thin 15.25.
For the under 15 boys, Ben Oldham covered the distance of 5km in 13th place in a time of 21.13 Also in this race was the under 17 men; Jonathan Causer finished in 7th place in 20.52 and Lochlain Fisher completed the race in 10th place in 24.13.

Next was the senior ladies 8.5km race, Gemma Connolly led the team home in 10th place in 37.40, Rachel McGoldrick finished 31st in 40.01, Maria McGoldrick finished in 57th place in 42.32 and Julia Eccleston finished in 72nd place in 44.12. Overall, the ladies team finished in 9th place.
Finally, the senior men covered the distance of 9.8km. Tom Griffiths led the team home in 20th place in 37.50, Luke Towers finished 25th in 38.08, John Greenall finished in 67th place in 41.01 and Barry Graney finished in 115th in 43.29. Also Peter Johnson finished 213th in 48.56, Andy O'Connor finished 214th in a time of 49.05 and Tony Doyle finished in 326th in 59.35. The men's team finished 15th overall.

2015 Annual Subscriptions

The committee would like to remind all members that their annual subscriptions for 2015 should be paid for next year.  This year we're updating our membership details so please update the club with your contact details and any relevant medical notes by filling in a membership form.  Fees are listed on the membership form (or see link on left - Join Us).  Don't forget nightly track fees are now £2 for non members so save yourself some money and join us.

Please return form with Cheque payable to St Helens Sutton AC to address on membership form or pay at the desk on the night.

Time to put those new year resolutions to the test and burn off a bit of the Christmas pudding. Training resumes as normal at the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting this Tuesday 6th Jan.
