YDL Upper Match 3, Hyndburn, Sunday 28th June

The third YDL meeting was held at Hyndburn on Sunday 28th June. There were 25 athletes competing for the club, 12 pb's were achieved. Overall the club finished 1st.

For the under 17 women, Caitlin Young competed in the long jump and 200m to finish in 27.9. Whilst Megan Lang competed in the shot putt, triple jump and the 100m to finish in 14.6. Erin Makin also competed in the 100m to achieve a time of 13.5 and 28.6 in the 200m. Abbie Roberts represented the under 17's in the 300m finishing 1st in 48.8. Emily Smith jumped in the high jump to achieve 1.55m. Whereas Samantha Price competed in the 1500m to finish in 5.30.7 and then went on to run in the 800m finishing in 2.37.7, achieving a pb and winning both of her events. Alex Bottomley thew the javelin 26.14m which was a pb. The 4x100 team finished 1st in 56.2, this included: Erin Makin, Emily Smith, Caitlin Young and Megan Lang. The 4x300 relay saw Abbie Roberts, Samantha Price, Caitlin Young and Erin Makin.

Joseph and Anthony Walker represented the under 17 men in the 1500m both achieving personal bests. Anthony finished in 5.00.1 and Joseph finished in 5.13.1. George Asson competed in the 100m to finish in 11.6 and 22.9 for the 200m. Sam Thomson competed in the 400m to achieve a pb of 54.6. Chris Larkin competed in the 1500m steeplechase and high jump- jumping 1.45m. Chris also represented the under 20 men in the 1500m- achieving a time of 4.45.2. Joseph Woods achieved pb's in both of his events, in the 400m he finished in 63.1 and 28.4 for the 200m. Jacob Beesley threw the shot, hammer and discus. Chris Lamb competed in the 100mHurdles to finish in 16.2 and threw the javelin 43.26m. The 4x100 relay consisted of Joseph Woods, Chris Lamb, George Asson and Jacob Beesley- who finished in 2nd in 48.8.

Zoe Pye represented the under 20 women in the 100m to finish in 13.4 (pb) and jumped 4.44m in the long jump (pb). Emma Scott competed in the long jump too, she jumped 4.72m and ran 28.1 in the 200m. She also threw the discus 14.16. Jessica Leonard ran 25.8 in the 200m and 59.4 for the 400m. Denni Rigby competed in the 1500m to finish in 6.25.9 (pb). Maria McGoldrick ran in the 400m finishing with a pb of 65.1 and 2.32.5 for the 800m. Rachel McGoldrick also competed in the 800m to finish in 2.27.2 and also ran in the 1500m finishing in 4.59.2. The 4x100 relay finished in 1st in 54.6, this consisted of Abbie Roberts, Jessica Leonard, Emma Scott and Zoe Pye. The 4x400 team finished in 1st in 4.35.9 and included: Rachel McGoldrick, Denni Rigby, Maria McGoldrick and Jessica Leonard.

The under 20 men saw Richard McGeachie win his 1500m to finish in 4.23.0 (pb) he then ran in the 800m to finish in 2.04.2. Adam Woosey competed in the 400m to finish in 54.1 and 2.06.6 for the 800m. Jonathan Causer ran 55.9 for the 400m and thew the shot and discus. The 4x400 relay finished 1st in 3.46.8 and included: Sam Thomson, Adam Woosey, Richard McGeachie and Jonathan Causer.

Northern Athletics championships, Sportcity Manchester

Three Athletes took part in the Northern Athletics championships in Manchester.

Tom Griffiths was fifth in the 1500m with a pb 3.58.89, Rachael Fishwick set a pb 18.59.03 for seventh place in the 5000m while Darren Scott recorded 11.19 in the 100m semifinal and 22.85 over 200m.


YDL Match 3, Salford, Sunday 21st June

Sunday 21st June saw the 3rd YDL match held at Salford. There were 21 athletes representing the club and 32 personal bests were achieved. Also James Moran and Cody Rigby both competed for their first time. The club finished 3rd overall.

For the under 13 girls, Lauren Taylor ran 11.3 (pb) for the 75m, she also go a pb in the 150m with 22.8. Lauren achieved her 3rd pb of the day in the long jump with 3.85m. Shana Rigby ran 12.3 for the 75m and got a pb in her 150m with 25.1. She also got a pb in the long jump with 2.38m. Ashlea Sprott achieved a pb in her 800m race; she ran 2.53. Also competing in the 800m was Blythe Carter-Jones, she too got a pb with a time of 2.56.6. Blythe also went on to get 2 more personal bests, in the javelin and shot.

Representing the under 15 girls, Lauren Marshall ran in the 100m to finish in 14.0, she jumped 4.36m in the long jump too. Cody Rigby ran in the 100m to achieve a pb of 14.6, she went on to get another pb in the 200m with a time of 30.0. Rebecca Houghton competed in the 300m to finish in 49.7, she achieved a pb in the javelin with 8.55m and another in the shot with 5.26m. Christina Rimmer ran in the 300m to finish in 50.9 (pb), she threw the discus 13.65m (pb) and competed in the long jump to achieve her 3rd pb of the day with 3.79m. Lucy Price competed in the 1500m to achieve a pb of 5.39. Lucy also threw the javelin 8.15m (pb). Jorden Pilkington finished in 13.0 over the 75mHurdles, she got a pb in the shot with 7.50m and jumped 1.35m in the high jump. The girls 4x300m relay consisted of Rebecca Houghton, Christina Rimmer, Cody Rigby and Lucy Price.

The under 13 boys saw James Moran compete in the 100m to achieve a pb of 14.6, he ran 29.7 in the 200m (pb) too. Matthew Roberts competed in the 100m too, he also achieved a pb with 15.6. Achieving his 2nd pb of the day, he ran 32.0 in the 200m. To finish with 3 pb's, Matthew jumped 3.51m in the long jump. Charlie Roberts ran in the 800m to get a pb of 2.24.2, Nathan Worrall ran in the 800m too and finished in 2.45.8 (pb), he threw the javelin 17.97m which was a pb too. Michael Brussels competed in the 1500m and achieved a pb with a time of 5.26.3, he got another pb in the long jump with 3.68. Liam Houghton ran in the 1500m to finish in 5.39.4. Matthew Fairclough threw the javelin 11.93m and got a pb in the shot with 7.01m. The boys had a 4x100m relay team, this included Charlie Roberts, Nathan Worrall, Matthew Fairclough and Liam Houghton.

Finally, for the under 15 boys Daniel Dobson ran 27.8 in the 200m (pb), he finished the 300m in 43.4 and jumped 4.38m in the long jump. Peter Davies got a pb in the 300m with a time of 42.7, he also threw the shot 8.15m and the discus 15.80m. Jack Worrall competed in the 800m to finish in 2.35.2, he threw the javelin 24m (pb). Matthew Slevin threw the discus 13.88m and competed in the javelin.

School championships, Sportcity Manchester

At the Cheshire Schools' Naomi Petch took fifth place in the U15 discus with 17.57m. The Merseyside Schools' results have yet to be published.

Northern League Match 2, Leigh : Saturday 6th June

29 of St Helens Sutton Athletes took part in the second match of the Northern Senior League at a very windy Leigh on Saturday 6th June. The club just scraped into 4th place by one point, but are still in 5th place in the overall standings by just 40 points.. There were some great performances on the day. Chris Lamb broke the senior and U17 men club records in the pole vault with a PB of 3.60m, high jumped 1.60 and threw the javelin 39.39m and the 4 x 100 relay team also broke the U17 men club record with a time of 47.6 (Chris Lamb, Matthew Lamb, Daniel Lamb and Jacob Beesley). Matthew Lamb ran 12.4 in the 100m, 24.7 in the 200m and tripled jumped 9.10m. Daniel Lamb ran the 100m in 12.2, the 200m in 25.4 and long jumped 5.54. Adam Woosey ran the 400m in 57.6 and the 800m in 2.07.3. Jonathan Causer ran the 800m in 2.11.7 and then volunteered for the 3000m Steeplechase and ran that in 12.30.2. Sam Thomson competed for the first time as a senior and ran the 400m in 56.8. Tom Griffiths ran the 1500m in 4.08.7 and John Greenhall ran it in 5.38.2, and the 5000m in 18.08.1. Steve Anders ran the 400mH for the first time and bravely finished the race after a nasty fall then went on to run the 5000m in 17.20.5. Jacob Beesley contested the long jump, 4.53 and the triple jump 7.57. Mike Hughes threw the hammer 28.10m, the shot 7.75 and the discus 18.63. Ste Winn threw the hammer 18.76 and the shot 8.42. Nathan Orr threw the discus 25.76 and the Javelin 18.70.
For the ladies Jess Leonard ran the 100m and 200m in 13.2 and 27.1, Caitlin Young ran the 100m in 14.4 and the 400m in 66.5 then long jumped 4.20m. Zoe Pye matched her PB in the 200m in 29.9 and also matched her PB in the long jump with 4.23m. Maria McGoldrick ran the 400m in 66.3 then the 800m in 2.31.5, sister Rachel ran the 800m in 2.28.3 then the 1500m in 5.07.4, Maddie Williams ran the 1500m in 5.25.4. The 3000m was covered by Gemma Connolly 10.55.0 and Rachael Fairclough in 11.10.6. Natalie Bannister came back to competition and ran the 100mH in 20.7. Emily Smith high jumped 1.45m and threw the javelin 18.89m and Hannah Seabrook high jumped 1.35m and triple jumped 8.67m. Megan Lang triple jumped 9.98m and threw the shot 6.73m. Alex Bottomley threw the javelin 22.28 whilst Trish Spark threw the hammer 36.78m, the shot 8.54m and the discus 20.40m. First time competing as a senior Denni Rigby helped the ladies 4 x 400 relay into 3rd place along with Maria, Rachel and Maddie with a time of 4.41.3. The mens 4 x 400 relay also finished in 3rd place with Jonathan, Adam, Tom and Sam in a time of 3.45.8. The ladies 4 x 100 relay with Emily, Caitlin, Megan and Zoe finished 4th in a time of 57.3.
