As it was the National championship weekend, the middle of the holiday season and the Challenge Cup semi-final (on which "no comment") it was gratifying to note the club was able to field anyone for the Cheshire League match held at Widnes. Results (incomplete).

Northern League - Division 2 West - Blackpool - 2 August

In 2008 the club survived in division 2W by fourteen match points after tying on League points, thanks to a superb turn out and team display from everyone. In 2009, another superb turn out and team display saw the club retain its position in the division by one League point with 40 match points to spare. Match scores on the day were Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre 403; LPS 371.5; St Helens-Sutton 329; SouthportWaterloo 289.5; West Cheshire 270; Manx 289.5. Final positions for the season were Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre 22; West Cheshire 19; LPS 14; St Helens-Sutton 13; SouthportWaterloo 12; Manx 4.

Sophie Rigby set long jump records in the senior, junior and U17 age groups and a senior 100m hurdles record on her debut. Winners included Rob Brocklebank (high jump), Natalie Mullineux and Lucy Croft (discus), John Appleton (steeplechase B), Dave Forrester (800 and 1500), Ian Costello (5000 B) and John Ashcroft with his first sub two minute 800m while Thaddeus Anim Somuah was unlucky the judges hadn't been to Specsavers!

Ian Hayburn will be providing the full in depth report shortly but special mention should be made of Josie Barrow travelled to Blackpool to contest the pole vault - despite injury - and her parents, who transported the poles (in both directions) dashing off to get Josie into work in time for her 2 p.m. shift. Others who work on match days please take note!!! In addition, in the unavoidable absence of others, Jane Ashcroft (3000), Cheryl Orrick (800 and 400) and marathon runner Joanne Keogh (1500) all provided practical support to the team, despite their own initial misgivings and scored valuable points.

Officials on the day were Dave Morley (Track), Andy Drillingcourt, Tony Raffle, Natalie Mullineux, Colin Spark and George Mullineux (Field), all of whom were splendidly led by Roger McCall, while Dave Green stepped in as timekeeper at very short notice. Many thanks too to all those who offered to provide transport. Results
