Nuptials:

Mark Laithwaite and Gill Bacon have decided to avoid being selected for the final Northern League match by getting married on Sunday 7 August at the Bishopscale Chapel, Great Langdale in Ambleside followed by a reception at the Stickle Barn Tavern. We know it's an extreme way to avoid an afternoon's racing but we all wish them every happiness. The club is making enquiries about the hire of a light aircraft to get athletes from the match at Stretford to the Lakes but barring a win on the lottery it may be difficult to fund. And to think they said it would never happen!!!!!!! Many congratulations to the happy couple.

BAL Cup Semi-Final:

St Helens-Sutton A C are the only Merseyside club to contest the BAL Cup this year. We are scheduled to take part in the semi-final at Stoke on 16 July where the two seeded clubs are Brrchfield and Sale. The draw will be made at 10.a.m. on the day of the match and the rest of the clubs in the draw are Blackpool, Cannock, Cardiff, City of Stoke, Deeside, Dudley, Lincoln Wellington, Newport, Notts, Pitreavie, Shrewsbury, Wakefield and Wrexham. If we do not manage to qualify for the final we will have the chance to compete in the Plate final depending on the quality of our performances. Any officials wishing to gain experience in another area are welcome to come along (always useful for upgrading).

Merseyside County AGM

Julia Hayes was re-elected as Secretary of the Merseyside County AA at the AGM held on Friday 15 April at Wavertree. John Irwin was elected as a Vice President and Phil Thomas was elected to the county committee. The new county chairman is Leo Carroll (Wirral) and the Vice Chairman Robbie Wood (LPS) both of whom were supported by the club. Our delegates were Phil Thomas, Paul Forrester and Ray Vose.

Bereavement:

We regret to have to report the death over the weekend of Gill Bacon's father, Eddie, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with Gill and her family at this sad time.

Invitations:

Caroline Morley and Mike Ehlen have been invited to take part in the Northern Junior Coaching Match at Cudworth on Saturday 16 April. This is the first time any of our athletes have been invited to take part in this event.

Application Forms:

Application forms are now available for the county and Northern championships. They can be downloaded from the internet or obtained in hard copy form from Phil Thomas.
