January 2004 News

Happy New Year:

The Committee wishes all members a
Happy and Prosperous New Year. As a club we are looking forward to even more success as we consolidate the positions we earned in 2003.

 The World Anti-Doping Code

UK Athletics has published a full list of prohibited substances on its website. This has been downloaded and Phil Thomas has a copy for any coaches who wish to check the list. Some of the prohibited substances are over two dozen letters in length and most will mean nothing to anyone not trained as
an analytical chemist. However, it is useful to be aware of the rules in case anyone inadvantly takes a prescribed medicine which contains a prohibited substance. In such cases strict liability applies rather than common sense and UK Athletics does have a help line so medicines can be checked for potential prohibited substances in any cases of doubt. According to UK Athletics testing can be carried out at any time on athletes over the age of 16 participating in the sport. Be warned.

Northern Cross Country Championships.

Further to the notices distributed earlier this month, times and course details are now available online here.  In particular the course map is slightly different from the one displayed in the club house.

Sue Clague, Danny McLoughlin, Laura Davenport and Joe Ehlen were all successful in their level 2 endurance practical courses while Roseanne Hutchinson and Joe are now qualified to give Dave Morley level 2 assistance in sprints and hurdles following practicals in those areas.Congraulations to all. Members interested in upgrading their coaching qualifications should contact Phil Thomas. Please note financial assistance may be available but only to members whose subscriptions are up to date.

Annual Subscriptions:

Subscriptions are paid on an annual rolling basis and are due as soon as you receive your notice of renewal. The club's expenses, including the payment of League fees do not stop during the winter. In recent months the club has paid out over £500 in membership fees for the Northern League, National Junior League and National Junior League.
