Membership

Minimum age

After considering the insurance and legal implications of club membership the minimum age for membership and training will be fixed at 8 years of age. Letters will be going out to parents confirming this and explaining the club's position on other matters relating to children's safety. Pam Appleton has collected subscriptions from 58 members since the AGM. As subscriptions form an integral part of our income all members are urged to pay their monies to Pam Appleton between 6.30 and 7 p.m. on club nights at the club's reception desk. The club has also acknowledge with gratitude a donation from Richard Farrar.

Young Athletes League

The Club has opted for the six club programme proposal in the consultative document sent by the Steering Committee. John Irwin has been appointed Boys' team manager for the 2003 track season following Rob Robinson's resignation from the Club.

Road Race:

Following discussion with St Helens MBC the race has been provisionally fixed for 16 March 2003. There will be separate men's and women's races run on the paths inside Sherdley Park, subject to final agreement with the Local Authority.

Coaching Strategy:

Coaching co-ordinator, Sue Clague's, coaching document was adopted as club policy. A full list of coaches is give on the coaching page and will be listed in the clubhouse. The Club's coaching strategy is athlete-centred with an emphasis on the achievement of individual championship success and personal attainment, supported by a competitive infrastructure, including league competition designed to facilitate individual excellence. Frank Atkinson, Gill Bacon, Lisa Bluett, Jon Calder, Joe Ehlen, Dave Green, Barry Kilby, Danny McLoughlin, Gill McNeilis, Steve Mayers and Layla Tapley. Were congratulated on their level 1 success and encouraged to take Level 2 in November. The Head Coaches appointed are Dave Morley (Sprints & Hurdles), John Irwin (Throws & Young Athletes' Middle Distance), Phil Thomas (Endurance & Jumps), Keiron Newcombe (Children in Athletics). Forms for expressions of interest in Levels 3 & 4 are available from Phil Thomas.

Club Wins Coaching Grant.

£860 coaching grant

The club has been awarded an £860 coaching grant to fund level one and some level two coaching awards. 60% has already been allocated to attendees at the level one course held at Victoria Park, Warrington on Saturday 21 September and the other 40% will help to defray some of the costs of the level 2 courses due to be held at the end of November.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions have been halved.

Senior Membership for the year is £11 Juniors (under 11's-19) pay £6 under 9's £5 Family Membership is £15 plus £1 for each individual member Training night fees remain 60p Members are responsible for their paying their own race entry fees. Subscriptions are now due on their renewal date not in September as was the case previously. The reduction in subscriptions is part of an ongoing programme of meeting the financial requirements of the club, its members and the needs of the socially deprived area where we are situated.

Coaching Course

Warrington 21 September 

There has been an excellent response to the Level 1 coaching course at Warrington on 21 September. Frank Atkinson, Joe Ehlen, Layla Tapley, Danny McLoughlin, Jon Calder, Steve Mayers, Janet Holmes, Julia Hayes and Brian Kilby have already indicated they are attending.Sue Clague has the application forms so please see Sue as soon as possible so we can increase the number of coaching assistants in order to meet the increased demand and prepare for 2003.


News from Committee.

Appointments 

The Committee meeting held on 5 September appointed Pam Appleton as Membership Secretary. Sue Clague has been appointed Chairman of the Coaching Sub-Committee and will act as Coaching Coordinator while John Irwin heads the Finance and Fundraising Sub-Committee.

Insurance

The Committee has received clarification on the insurance position for coaches. All level 1 coaches are covered by UK Athletics' insurance provided they are acting in accordance with their approved skills and under supervision. What this means is that any unqualified assistant is not covered and must provide their own personal liability insurance if they want to assist.

Coaching Courses

As there is a Level 1 coaching course at Warrington on 21 September the Committee advises anyone interested in coaching to take the one-day course. Application forms from Sue Clague. Eight people have already expressed interest in taking the £45 course and the club has applied for a coaching grant to meet the expense involved.

Young Athletes League

The Young Athletes League is moving to a new format in 2003. A circular is on the notice board and anyone who wishes to voice their opinion about the new format should tell Julia Hayes before 19 September so it can be presented to the next Committee meeting for decision.

Committee Meeting

The Committee next meets on Tuesday 24 September 8.30 prompt and finishes no later than 9.30.p.m.

Annual General Meeting

New Constitution Accepted

Louise Casey The new constitution was accepted immediately prior to the AGM and formed the basis of the election for the new Committee. The new Committee is listed in full on our contacts page. The Athlete of the Year awards went to Barry Cunliffe and Louise Casey. Barry Cunliffe The individual awards went to Barry Graney, Ray Vose and Barry Cunliffe, the women's awards to Margaret Hunter-Frackelton, Louise Casey and Cecilia Fitzsimons. On track and field Phil Robinson took the award ahead of Ray Vose and Alan Geraghty while the women's awards went to Michelle Murray, Sue Lowrie and Gill Bacon.
