National Road Relays: Sutton Coldfield 25 October

Laura Davenport led an enthusiastic quartet of athletes in making history by appearing in the National Road Relays for the first time in many years.Laura brought the club home 58th out of 88 starters on leg one in a time of 17mins 11scs 

With three first teamers missing through holiday, injury and family commitments, Chris Dempsey stepped in to guide the club into70th place by the half way mark, recording 20.31. Julia Eccleston picked up two places as she ran a superb 20.24 leaving debut girl Toni Garnett to record an impressive 20.43 on the final circuit to bring the team home 66th overall. The club were the third Merseyside team to finish and got the better of perennial rivals Bury A C in a close finish.

Amsterdam Road Races 19 October

Several veterans travelled to Holland to compete in the Amsterdam road races. Cecilia Fitzsimons, who ran the 10k in 46.39, came back with a broken wrist. Ritchie Bradshaw (1.38.06) led the half marathon charge supported by Pam Appleton (1.51.36), Margaret Hunter-Frackelton (2.05.29), John Irwin (2.13.45) and Janet Holmes (2.18.06). Alan Davies, continuing his conditioning work for the sprints, completed the marathon in 5.41.27. Congratulations to all. 

 North West Women's League: Heaton Park. 18 October

Half term holidays and illness reduced the number of club participants at this event but those who competed ran well. With three to count the club fielded a team in the under 13 Girls' contest, Sara McLoughlin (17), Kim Bridge (22) and Lorna Forrester (27) making the count.

Chloe Wilson (29) and Mellissa McLoughlin (31) tackled the under 15 course
while Louise Casey (33) and Julia Eccleston (59) warmed up for the National
Road Relays next week by competing in the senior race.

Manchester & District League: Heaton Park. 18 October

Some of the younger lads took the opportunity to open their cross country season by competing as guests in the Manchester & District League which acted as hosts to the North West Women's League.

In the under 13 race Mike Ehlen (14), Anthony  Marsh (19) & Steve Clague
(24) completed the course while Dave Forrester (3) and Tom Rigby (18)
competed in the under 15 race. All the lads now know the work required to be
ready for the championship season in January and February.    Bits & Bobs:

Tony Smith has been active pursuing his love of hill running recording 32.46 at   the Harrock Hill race and taking sixth place in Manchester two days later.The club's newest life member, Trevor Prescott, won the over 70 award at the quick
Capenhurst 5 recording 28.45 in 62nd place. Club members running the Great North Run included Cecilia Fitzsimons, Ritchie Bradshaw, Alan Davies,
John Irwin and Bev Shuker. Official results will be published as soon as known.

Run Liverpool 12 October

A small number of club members took part in this combined 10k and Half
Marathon on Sunday morning. Andy O'Connor was the third over 40 veteran to
finish in the 10k and Cecilia Fitzsimons won the over 55 prize.

Barry Graney led the half marathon team home, supported by Richie Bradshaw and Ian Pass while Dorothy Fairhurst was the third over 60 to cross the finish line with Pauline Picton doing well to complete the course after her recent injury problems.

Larry's Five: Southport 5 October

The Southport Autumn 5, renamed Larry's 5 after the late Larry Hyland who
died earlier this year, attracted three senior ladies from the club amongst the 272
finishers. Julia Eccleston recorded 38.24(179), Claire Newing 39.10(187) and Dorothy Fairhurst 43.22(233).

The previous day Kim Bridge, Sara McLoughlin and Mellisa McLoughlin had competed in the opening ( and very wet) Merseyside Schools' cross country
league match at Calderstones Park. Mellissa was 14th, Sara finished in the top two dozen and we are still waiting for Kim's position but will post it as soon as we know.
