Manchester Area Cross Country League Match 3

Saturday 2nd December 2017 saw the third Manchester Area Cross Country League, held at Kenworthy Woods, Wythenshawe.

There were 15 athletes for the club including the under 11 boys and girls.

Gabriel Mullen led the team home. He finished 8th in 7.20, whilst Liam Johnson finished 27th in 8.20. Joseph Collier finished 33rd in 8.25 and Will Vose finished 38th in 8.32, meaning the boy’s placed 5th overall! Under 11 girl, Daisy Ward was in the same race, she finished 34th in 8.30.

For the under 13 boys and girls; Rhys Hopkins finished 15th in a time of 11.07 whilst Michael Dobson finished 26th in 11.40. Lucy Bridge finished 73rd in 14.00 and Jessica Bairstow finished 82nd in a time of 14.44.

In the under 15 boys, Charlie Roberts finished 14th in 14.33 and Joe Byrne finished in 28th place in 15.35. Also in this race were the under 15 girls, this race saw Alyx Bridge finish 35th in 18.18.

Gemma Connolly went in the senior ladies race finishing 5th overall in 31.15 and for the senior men; Ian Roberts completed the race in 221st in a time of 43.38 and Andy O’Connor finished 334th in 48.26!

Manchester Area Cross Country League – Match 2

The second Manchester Area Cross Country League took place on Saturday 11th November, at Boggart Hole Clough. There were 26 athletes representing St Helens Sutton, which was the biggest turn out for a long time!

For the juniors; Will Vose, Sam Mawdsley, Charlotte Cochran, Grace Westhails and Rebecca Cartwright all competed in their first cross country race, whilst Craig Brighton represented the senior men for the first time!

Running in the under 11 boys 2,000m, Gabriel Mullen led the team home in 7th place in 8.15, followed by Joe Colley who finished in 31st place in 9.12. Liam Johnson finished 40th in 9.28 and Will Vose finished 55th in 10.10, meaning the team finished 8th overall.

The under 11 girls also ran 2,000m, in this race, Daisy Ward finished 46th in 9.52 and Chloe Leigh finished 69th in 10.45.

The under 13 boys 3,000m race saw Rhys Hopkins finish 16th in a time of 12.07, whilst Michael Dobson finished 31st in 12.40 and Sam Mawdsley, 56th in 16.27. Overall the boys finished 10th.

There were 2 teams for the under 13 girls, the first team, which consisted of Hollie Brussels, Lucy Bridge and Jessica Bairstow, finished 21st. Hollie finished the 3,000m course in 57th in 14.38, whilst Lucy was 61st in 14.42 and Jessica 89th in 16.52. The second team for the girls included Charlotte Cochran, Grace Westhails and Rebecca Cartwright, this team finished 24th. Charlotte was 90th in 17.01, whilst Grace was 91st in 17.07 and Rebecca 92nd in 17.10.

Charlie Roberts went in the under 15 boys 4,400m race, finishing 17th in 17.02. Michael Brussels finished 24th in 17.33 whilst Joe Byrne finished 27th in 18.14. Bringing the boy’s team home, Michael Duffy finished in 43rd place in 21.01 meaning that they finished 6th overall.

Representing the under 15 girls, Alyx Bridge completed the 4,400m course in 33rd place in 21.37.

For the senior ladies 8,000m race, Gemma Connolly finished 5th overall in a time of 32.15 and Rachel McGoldrick finished in 101st place in 39.56.

In the senior men’s 9,600m race, Craig Brighton finished 98th in 38.30, Ian Roberts 302nd in 45.23, Andy O’Connor 405th in 50.52 and Ray Vose 419th in 51.43.

Well done to all athletes who competed for the club and a big thank you to Chris Dempsey who helped officiate!

The next league match is to be held at Kenworthy Woods (M23 0BD) on Saturday 2nd December!

Northern Cross Country Relays

Saturday 21st October saw the Northern Cross Country Relays, held at Graves Park, Sheffield.

There were 9 athletes competing for the club, including Daisy Ward, Poppy Handley-Hicking, Liam Johnson, Joe Colley and Gabriel Mullens, all of whom ran in their cross country!
For the under 11 girls; Daisy went off first, she completed the 1500m circuit in 6:28 handing over to Chloe Leigh-Mark who finished in 6:48. On the last leg, Poppy brought the girls home in 19th position, finishing in 5:49.
Liam was on the first leg for the under 11 boys, he finished the 1500m loop in 6:20, setting the team off to a great start! Joe finished in 6:38, handing over to Gabriel who finished in 5:39 meaning the boys finished in 23rd place.
The under 15 boys ran 2000m; this saw Charlie Roberts on leg 1, who finished in 7:47. He then handed over to Joe Byrne who ran 8:19, leaving Michael Brussels on the anchor leg, bringing the team home in 24th place, 8:27.

Manchester Area League Cross Country – Match 1

Saturday 14th October saw ten St Helens Sutton AC athletes compete in the first cross country of the 2017/18 season, held at Heston Park Manchester.
Three athletes competed in their first ever cross country for the club, including Jessica Bairstow, Rhys Hopkins and Michael Duffy.
For the under 13 boys, Rhys was first home, finishing in 13:27, in 22nd place, shortly followed by Michael Dobson who completed the 3.28km course in 13:46 in 30th. Also in this race were the under 13 girls; Hollie Brussels ran 15:29 to finish in 37th place and Jessica Bairstow finished in 20:34 in 82nd place.
Charlie Roberts led the under 15 boys team home, he finished in 19:57 in 16th position. Michael Brussels ran 21:42 and finished in 34th whilst Michael Duffy finished the 4.97km race in 26:12 in 41st.
Coming back from injury; Gemma Connolly finished 3rd in the senior ladies 8.49km cross country. Gemma finished in 34:51.
Representing the senior men in the 9.84km race, Ian Roberts finished 249th in a time of 47:36 whereas Ian White finished in 296th place in 49:45.

Road Relay entries

Teams have already been entered for the Northern Counties Road Relays on 9th September, we are now looking to put our teams together for Northern Road Relays on 16th September at Sportcity, Manchester.

Entry fee is £8 per person and should be given to Helena McGoldrick or Chris Dempsey by Thursday 7th September at the latest.

Northern Track & Field Championships

Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August saw the Northern Track & Field Championships, held at Leigh. There were 3 athletes representing the club, all of which achieved personal bests.

On Saturday, under 13 boy, Michael Dobson went in the 800m and finished in a time of 2.21. Michael was 6th overall and achieved a Grade 1 standard!

Charlie Roberts competed in the under 15 boys 800m on the Sunday and took the bronze medal. He finished in 2.03 which is also a Grade 1!

Also representing the under 15 boys, Michael Brussels competed in his first ever 3000m. He finished in 10th place overall, with a time of 11.18.7- we look forward to seeing Michael gain experience in this event!

A big well done to the boys who competed in the Northern Champs!

Cheshire League Match 3

Sunday 30th July saw the third Cheshire League, held at Victoria Park, Warrington, where 30 athletes competed for the club. On the day, 58 pb’s were achieved!

Starting with the under 11 boys:

Saul Hockenhull got a pb in his 75m with a time of 12.5, he also got another in the javelin with a throw of 9m26. Saul also went on to compete in the long jump, achieving 2m65 and ran 2.17 for the 600m. Gabriel Mullen got 4 pb’s; 12.1 for the 75m, 1.56.2 for the 600m, 2m71 for the long jump and 5m94 for the javelin. Lewis Dunn also achieved pb’s in all of his events; 11.6 for the 75m, 2.19.4 for the 600m, 2m96 for the long jump and 10m48 for the javelin. Liam Johnson ran 12.2 for the 75m, 2.16.7 for the 600m, jumped 2m75 in the long jump and threw 8m63 in the javelin. Liam got pb’s in all of his events. Joseph Colley ran 12.5 for the 75m, 2.18 for the 600m, jumped 2m86 for the long jump and threw the javelin 12m30- meaning he achieved 4 pb’s. Jacob Waterhouse ran 12.4 for the 75m and jumped 2m92 in the long jump, leaving him with 2 brand new pb’s.

The under 11 boys 4×100 relay team finished in 69.0- well done to Lewis, Joseph, Liam and Saul.

For the under 11 girls:

Chloe Mark got pb’s right across the board, 13.2 for the 75m, 2.14.5 for the 600m, 2m57 for the long jump and 7.73m for the javelin. Poppy Handley Hickey ran 13.5 for the 75m and threw the javelin 6m34 meaning she achieved 2 pb’s. Poppy also went on to compete in the 600m finishing in 2.22.9. Daisy Devlin ran 14.0 for the 75m, jumped 2.42m in the long jump and threw 7m90 in the javelin- giving her 3 new pb’s. Daisy ran 2.34.1 for the 600m too. Arwen Lawrenson got 3 pb’s on the day; 12.9 for the 75m, 2m50 for the long jump and 8m04 for the javelin. Rachel Cahill ran 13.1 for the 75m and jumped 2.68m in the long jump. She achieved pb’s in these events and also threw the javelin 8m83.

Next up – The under 13 boys:

Michael Dobson ran 29.5 for the 200m which was a pb and also ran 2.23.8 for the 800m. He threw the shot 4m27 too. Thomas Durrance ran 33.5 in the 200m and threw the shot 3m98.

Representing the under 13 girls:

Eleanor Gaskell got 2 pb’s, one in the 100m with a time of 14.2 and another in the long jump with a jump of 4m11. Jasmine Scott ran 15.4 (pb) for the 100m, jumped 3m51 for the long jump and threw the javelin 6m32(pb). Jessica Bairstow got 3 pb’s; 18.7 for the 100m, 3.32.0 for the 800m and jumped 2m61 in the long jump. Hollie Brussels ran 16.6 for the 100m, 2.55.2 for the 800m and threw the javelin 13m95 giving her 3 pb’s. Rebecca Durrance ran 16.0 for the 100m (pb) and jumped 3m40 for the long jump.

The under 13 girls 4×100 relay team finished in 61.0- well done to Eleanor, Jasmine, Rebecca and Jessica.

For the under 15 boys:

James Moran ran 26.7 for the 200m and jumped 4m61 in the long jump to achieve a pb. Adam Loughran ran 29.3 for the 200m. Michael Duffy ran 30.8 for the 200m and also competed in the field events, he jumped 4m15 in the long jump and threw the javelin 9.62- meaning he achieved 2 pb’s.  Michael Duffy ran 30.6 for the 200m and 5.28.2 for the 1500m.

In the under 15 girls:

Jessica Durrance got pb’s in both of her events, she ran 14.7 in the 100m and threw the shot 4m68. Lauren Taylor ran 15.0 for the 100m and threw the shot 6.58m which was a pb. Emma Eccles competed in the 100m and finished in 13.1 Alicia Spilling ran 15.1 for the 100m (pb) 2.53.7 for the 800m and threw the shot 3m40 (pb).

The girl’s 4x100m relay team finished in 59.3- well done girls!

Under 17 men:

Peter Davies ran 12.4 for the 100m and threw the shot 8m71 giving him 2 new pb’s.

For the senior men:

Martin Johnson ran 13.10.9 in the 3000m to achieve a pb. Alex Marsh ran 14.5 for the 100m which was a pb and Ian Conway threw the shot 8m88.

Well done to everyone who competed for the club and a big thank you to all of the volunteers! Elsewhere… Charlie Roberts ran as a guest at the Mid Lancashire League, held at Litherland and competed in the 800m, achieving a pb of 2.03.6, well done Charlie!

YDL Lower – Match 4

20 athletes travelled to Oldham to compete in the fourth YDL League match. Although the conditions weren’t too great, the club still managed to achieve 26 personal bests and 1 club record! The club record was broken by Michael Dobson who competed in the under 13 boys 800m, achieving 2.21.3!
After achieving a pb in the 800m, Michael also went on to compete in the 100m which he completed in 15.0 and achieved another pb in the javelin, throwing 14.53m. Thomas Durrance went in the under 13 boys 200m and finished in 33.6. He also competed in the long jump, achieving 3.42m and threw the shot 4.64m. Jacob Roberts ran 15.8 for the 100m and 34.5 for the 200m. Jacob also jumped 3.47m for the long jump.
For the under 13 girls, Emilia Lamb competed for her first time and showed potential for competitions to come in the future. Emilia competed in the 75m, finishing in 12.2; she threw the shot 4.87m and the javelin 12.91m. Jasmine Scott ran 11.6 for the 75m, 22.4 for the 150m and jumped 3.46m in the long jump. Rebecca Durrance ran 26.2 for the 150m and jumped 1.10m in the high jump. Rebecca also competed in the long jump, achieving 3.37m. Hollie Brussels ran in the girls 1200m and achieved a pb of 4.31.2!
As for the under 15 boys, Aiden Lamb competed in his first track event, achieving 3.83m in the long jump! James Moran ran 13.1 for the 100m, 26.4 for the 200m and threw the javelin 12.37m. Adam Loughran ran 13.3 for the 100m, 28.3 for the 200m (pb) and threw the shot putt 4.27m (pb). Rhys Gormley ran 13.7 for the 100m (pb) and jumped 4.49m in the long jump. Charlie Roberts ran 2.04.2 for the 800m (pb), 40.3 for the 300m and jumped 1.35m in the high jump. Michael Duffy got pb’s in both of his events, he ran 2.37.0 for the 800m and 47.9 for the 300m. For the boys 1500m, Scott Aldred smashed his pb by 25 seconds meaning his pb now stands at 5.24. Also in this race, Joseph Byrne finished with a pb of 5.08 and competed in the discus. Joseph threw 13.59m which was yet another personal best! Luca Noonan threw the shot putt 8.70m whilst Michael Brussels threw the discus 16.75m (pb) and the javelin 11.69m.
The 4x100m saw Adam, James, Aiden and Rhys finish in 55.2 whereas the 4x300m team, which consisted of Michael, Charlie, Joseph and Rhys, finished 1st in 3.65.5.
Elizabeth Greenall and Emma Eccles were off to a great start, winning the A and B string for the under 15 girls 75mHurdles. Emma ran 13.4 for the 100m and 27.6 for the 200m (pb). Elizabeth jumped 1.41m for the high jump and 4.17m in the long jump. Celine Virton got a pb in the 100m with 14.1, she threw the shot 7.52m and the javelin 21.92m (pb). Holly Scott ran 45.8 for the 300m (pb) and jumped 3.34m in the long jump (pb) and threw the javelin 11.77m (pb). Lauren Taylor got a pb in the 200m with a time of 30.1, and a pb in both the shot (6.29m) and the discus (11.28m). Jessica Durrance ran 52.7 for the 300m and threw the discus 8.82m which was a pb.
The 4x100m relay saw Lauren, Emma, Elizabeth and Celine finish in 57.2.
