Club Event – Dream Trail Race

dream

Planning for our trail race, the St Helens-Sutton Dream Trail Race is well underway and the entries are coming in steadily ahead of the early bird deadline at the end of the month.

This year we have made two major changes, there is an overall race entry limit of 400 and prizes have been extended to include the first three men and the first three women in each race. Every finisher will receive a medal.

There are two races this year, a 5k and a 10k race.  The 5k race is suitable for those new to trail racing or looking for the next challenge from parkrun or couch to 5k running.  The 10k route will challenge the more experienced runners and is a real test of endurance.

Entrants for the 5k race must be ages 11 or over on the day of the race which is 28 August while anyone competing in the 10k event must be 16 or over.

The numbers have been sponsored by the Clock Face Hotel and other sponsors are welcome for different aspects of the race.  Potential sponsors are asked to ring 01744 633476 for details.

Remember this race raises much needed funds for our club, reducing the need to raise membership fees and subscriptions while contributing to the funding of major purchases such as the high jump cover which has enabled us to resume coaching for this event.

Entry is online via the Dream Trail website at http://www.dreamtrailrace.org.uk/race-entry  – Sign up today!

Leo Carroll

On Saturday evening 18th June, Leo Carroll passed away peacefully while asleep. He had been suffering from a very aggressive cancer, and had been in severe pain for a few weeks. At Wirral we are struggling to come to terms with the loss of such an important person to us, and I know that there are many across Merseyside and Northern athletics who will want to pay their respects in due course.

We will post details of the funeral on our website and also our facebook page, and provide details for those who want to send floral or charitable tributes.
